May the shirts be with you, or something like that. All I can think about is shirts. Shirt Overload incoming!

3757911-darthmaulMan, all the shirts. I mean all the shirts. I was asked to come up with 50 sketches for a t shirt idea that I have been brainstorming for the past couple week. I got the typographer, John Baskerville, and I have to say the guy did not lead a very prolific life, but he was admired for what he did. He created the baskerville font and translated a ton of literary classics with his font.

Two of the more prominent pieces that he translated were Paradise Lost by John Milton and The Aeneid by Virgil. I have personally read both of these and I think the only one that beats Paradise lost is the Divine Comedy from Dante. It gave me a great idea for the t shirt designs too. I decided to use not only John Baskerville’s font as a starting point, but I also decided to use Devil May Cry characters pretty heavy on the sketches.

In Devil May Cry the main character is Dante. His brother is Virgil. I thought it would be cool to incorporate that in the t shirt designs. So what I did was had a battle scene with Dante and Virgil with Baskerville overlooking. This is my most ambitious design, but I hope to make it work.

All my other designs revolve around either Dante fighting Virgil or play on words using Baskerville’s name. Such as “Bask in the Light” or something equally as cheesy. I also went to Star Wars for inspiration. (If you didn’t know I was going to do this, what is wrong with you?) I used Darth Vader a lot, and I wanted to use characters such as Maul and Sideous, but I just couldn’t figure out a plausible connection. I could have had Darth Maul fight Virgil, but I think that would be stretching it a bit too far.

Hopefully this slideshow thing I have brewing works. If not, I will do my best to fix it. Let me know what you guys think of my designs!
