John Baskerville, Writing Master

There are few in the realm of typography as influential or important as John Baskerville. Baskerville was born in 1706 in England. He is famous for creating the Baskerville font. Which is a font used to this day.The picture below is a example of the font being used by Baskerville in a translation of Virgil.

The Baskerville Font

Baskerville invented a type of ink that was “truly black” which he used on highly glossy paper. This is what gave the font, “A bold quality.” According to the Encyclopædia Britannica.
